The New Cologne Sitting on My Boyfriend’s Shelf

A Review of the Ralph Lauren Polo Red Extreme Cologne

Influenster was kind enough to gift my boyfriend with a free bottle of the Ralph Lauren Polo Red Extreme cologne. He was pretty excited when he heard that he was getting something for a change.

The day we got it, I made him try it on immediately. The scent was a mix of fresh yet musky, which are two words you would most likely not hear together in a fragrance. I’m not sure how Ralph Lauren pulled this off but they created a cologne that makes my boyfriend smell clean but “manly” at the same time.

Ralph Lauren Polo Red Extreme bottle

The packaging is very minimalistic and unassuming. However, the strong red Polo logo against the matte black bottle gives it a bold yet dignified presence on my boyfriend’s shelf. It’s actually small enough for him to either keep in his pocket or keep in his car but he found that applying it once a day is all he needs.

My boyfriend applies a light amount in the morning and there’s still a faint scent lingering toward the end of the night. According to him, it’s a bold fragrance but not overwhelming to the point where he’d get sick of smelling it midday. I’d have to agree as I’m not a huge fan of fragrances, I hardly wear perfume myself, but I’ll admit that I do enjoy the scent on him.

Go pick up a bottle for your mans, ladies!

Manhattan’s New “Anti-Spa” Heyday Popped My Facial Cherry

A Recap of My Experience Getting My First Facial Ever at Heyday TriBeCa

I may be in my 20’s but before a month ago I had never gotten a facial. Crazy, right? Getting a facial to me meant either shelling out the big bucks at a fancy spa or being true to my Asian roots and heading to the back room of a Chinatown hair salon. And on a recent college graduate’s salary I’ll let you guess which option was more viable.

What is Heyday?

Then came Heyday, popping up all over my Facebook news feed, calling themselves the “anti-spa” and touting affordable facials. After seeing the ads a few times I eventually took the plunge with my best friend and booked my first-ever facial appointment. Heyday offers three basic facials: a 30-minute session for $60, a 50-minute session for $95 or a 75 minute session for $135. Each facial can be upgraded with $35 enhancements that target specific skin goals. Their hours are great as well: open from 8AM to 10PM on weekdays and 9AM to 8PM on weekends.

A Recap of My Experience

I popped in for a 50-minute session after work and was met on time by my skin therapist, Hillary. (Who, by the way, is wonderful and I’d highly recommend her). I told her about my skin’s history and current condition as well as my skin goals. She immediately got to work cleansing my face to remove my makeup and prep my skin for the rest of the session. I ended up purchasing an enhancement because this was my first facial ever, meaning I had quite a lot of gunk trapped in my pores. I could also hear my best friend’s voice in my head telling me to #treatyoself.

Considering I have never had a facial before I don’t have anything to compare this experience with. But oh my goodness, it was amazing. So amazing in fact that I’ve already been back for a second session with Hillary! I saw such incredible improvement in the look and feel of my skin. Deep-seated blackheads that had been there for years were gone and some texture that was left behind by recent breakouts disappeared too. I had never realized the benefits of facials but now I’m a believer.

Looking to #treatyoself?

Heyday is currently located in Nomad and TriBeCa with an Upper East Side branch opening soon. You can easily book an appointment online and check out their shop to see what products they use.

My Visit to the Permanent Glossier Showroom in NYC

A Beauty Obsessed New Yorker’s experience at the Glossier Showroom in Lower Manhattan.

Glossier Serums

At the beginning of December, Glossier announced that its permanent showroom was officially open to the public. The showroom is located in Lower Manhattan, on the outskirts of my regular stomping grounds of Chinatown. Housed on the penthouse floor of the building that their offices reside in, the showroom is open 7 days a week.

Being just as Glossier obsessed as the next cool girl, my best friend and I made it a point to check it out. We met downstairs and quickly made our way inside where a very sweet staff member was there to greet us. She showed us into the elevator and up we went to the top floor.

The Showroom

Once those elevator doors opened we were in heaven. Everything you can find on their website was right there in front of us to swatch, try and buy! We immediately hit up the Serums and then made our way to the rest of their cult-favorite skincare products.

After we were done shopping around, another staff member came to “take our order.” She pulled out a notepad listing all their products and checked off the items that we wanted. After that, we took our orders to the counter where another staff member in the back packed the items into their iconic pink bubble wrap pouches.

Lauren Lora's Glossier Haul
The whole shopping process was pretty seamless and the showroom staff were all eager to help. It was an added bonus that everybody kept complimenting me on my “Glossier Pink” hair color! I walked out with a Priming Moisturizer, a Coconut Balm Dotcom and a Super Pure Serum.

A Mini-Review on the Products.

I tried the products out the moment I got home. The Priming Moisturizer is to die for. It hydrates while prepping the skin for makeup, making the face feel incredibly soft and smooth. As for the Coconut Balm Dotcom, it’s the original Balm Dotcom but smells amazing. I use it as a lip salve, especially now during the Winter. Then there’s the Super Pure Serum. This serum was my main motivation for going to the showroom in the first place. I use it every day and night as part of my daily skincare routine and so far I’m loving it.

My experience at the Glossier showroom was a positive one and I’m more than likely to go back. The entire place is incredibly instagrammable and a skincare enthusiasts paradise. If you’re from NYC or planning to visit soon you should definitely stop by because I can guarantee you’ll walk out with something you’ll love.

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lips + Swatches

LaurenLora_ColourPop_UltraGlossy-1

You know the all too familiar feeling of wearing lip gloss and then a gust of wind blows, leaving you with a mouthful of sticky hair? If you answered yes, then you understand why I ditched lip gloss completely in high school and vowed to only wear lipstick from then on…until now. But if anybody could bring lip gloss back it would be ColourPop with their Ultra Glossy Lips.

According to their Snapchat, the Ultra Glossy Lip formula isn’t sticky or tacky like your typical lip gloss. It just provides high shine with sheer color payoff. I’m already obsessed with all their other formulas and Super Shock Shadows so I took a chance and bought four:

  1. Dropout – The darkest shade of the four, Dropout is described as a chocolate raspberry in a sheer finish on the ColourPop website. This is a great transition shade into Fall since it gives you that bitten berry lip look.
  2. My Jam – What’s a lip gloss haul without lots of glitter? This shade is described as a warm gold nude with silver and gold glitter in a metallic finish. It’s definitely my favorite shade out of the bunch.
  3. Tight Fit – A peachy pink with pink, silver and gold shimmer, Tight Fit is definitely the girliest shade I purchased. I love wearing it right now during the summer to give a hint of pink to my lips.
  4. Wolfie – ColourPop describes Woflie as a rosy pink with gold shimmer in a metallic finish. All you have to know is that it’s gorgeous and can definitely be worn all year round.

I’ve had these Ultra Glossy Lips since they launched about a month ago and I’ve been wearing them nonstop since. ColourPop wasn’t lying when they said that these glosses deliver high shine without the tackiness. Now I can happily wear my lip gloss without worrying about it getting all in my hair. Thank you ColourPop for once again answering my prayers.

Which Ultra Glossy Lip shade are you most excited about?

Peach & Lily Haul

LaurenLora_PeachAndLily_Haul-1

One of my favorite places to shop for Korean skincare in the city is at the Peach & Lily store in Macy’s Flushing. They have this amazing tool that they use to analyze your skin in order to curate a routine tailored to your needs and concerns. It turns out that I have “very good” yet sensitive skin that is prone to redness around my nose, chin, cheeks and forehead. I also have dry skin around my eyes and underlying hyperpigmentation spots that haven’t come to the surface yet on my cheeks.

After analyzing my skin, I asked specifically for an essence and a serum since those were the products that I was running low on at home. I was recommended a hydrating essence that will also treat my redness and a facial oil to combat the hyperpigmentation forming underneath the surface of my skin. The woman working the store also suggested an eye mask to treat the severe dryness around my eyes.

AROMATICA NEROLI BRIGHTENING FACIAL OIL ($42) – Neroli Oil is known to aide in skin regeneration as well as helping to keep skin elastic, diminish the look of broken capillaries and reduce hyperpigmentation. I’ve been taking one to two drops in the palm of my hand and patting it into my skin every night after my essence. I love the floral scent and how luxurious it feels. Hopefully it helps to keep my hyperpigmentation at bay as well as lighten a few of the acne scars that I have.

THE LOTUS ESSENCE ($64) – Lotus Leaf extract in this essence helps to protect the skin from free radicals found in the environment, which I’m certain NYC is full of. It also helps to hydrate and heal the skin leaving it brighter, balanced and healthier. I like to dot a pump of this essence around my face, massage it into my skin in circular motions and then pat it in to really help it be absorbed. My skin feels immediately hydrated after using it and I can see slight improvement in my redness.

SHANGPREE GOLD BLACK PEARL EYE MASK ($60) – The moment the sales rep at the Peach & Lily store said the name of this product I was obsessed. Gold and black pearl in one product? Hello, luxury! The anti-aging formula accelerates the rejuvenation process helping to fight fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. The result is balanced and brightened skin leading to the reduction of dark circles.

Which product would you be most excited to try?

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows + Swatches

LaurenLora_ColourPop_SuperShockShadows-1

LaurenLora_ColourPop_SuperShockShadows-2

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Colourpop. If you follow me on Snapchat (@laurenloraa) you’ll see that I rock a different Colourpop lippie almost every day. My latest obsession from the brand, though? Their Super Shock Shadows.

Each Super Shock Shadow comes individually packaged in a twist-cap container, which are important to keep closed tight because of their formulation. On the Colourpop website it says that if the shadows are left open for too long they can begin to “lose some of [their] magic.” The company also recommends to use your fingers or a synthetic brush for application. Personally, I prefer to use my fingers.

Here are the shades I recently picked up:
1. Wattles – Dusty beige pink that comes in a satin finish and works beautifully as an all-over the lid shade
2. Lala – Pinky rose gold shade in an ultra metallic finish that is perfect to finish your look off with
3. On the Rocks – Metallic true bronze with gold and violet glitter that is incredibly versatile as either an all-over the lid shade or popped right on the center of the lid for some dimension
4. Mittens – The only matte shadow I bought and I wish I had gotten more! This deep warm brown with reddish undertones is my go-to for deepening my crease
5. Bae – Described as a rich eggplant purple with an emerald and turquoise glitter duo chrome metallic finish this is easily the most unique shade out of the bunch. In certain lights it looks blue and in others it sparkles purple

The color payout from every one of these shadows is beautiful and I’m already itching to purchase more at only $5 a pop!
